Who are the Ursulines?
We are a community founded by Saint Angela Merici
in Brescia, Italy, in 1535
and established in Southern Africa since 1895.
We are women of Love and Service,
living the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity and obedience .
We meet God in prayer as true contemplatives,
putting Christ, who is "our one and only treasure", at the centre of our lives.
We meet each other in community,
living the charism of St Angela, in "unity of heart"
and supporting and encouraging each other
in our consecration to Jesus Christ,
and in our mission to world.
We serve God in our world in all forms of
education and religious education,
as pastoral workers, formators and missionaries,
bringing God to a world searching for faith, hope, love and peace.
We proclaim the Gospel values of Jesus Christ with our lives,
and commit ourselves to impart the knowledge of the Gospel and God's love,
especially in our African context,
and to work for the holistic empowerment and development
of individuals and communities, in their God-given
spiritual, emotional, physical and intellectual uniqueness.
The "two-fold love" of God and neighbour,
is at the heart of our Ursuline mission.
